Henry Brown Reber, prominent farmer, veteran of World War I, died suddenly in the lobby of the Axtell Christian Hospital, Monday afternoon, at 3:25, January 19, of a cardiac collapse. Mr. Reber had not entered the hospital as a patient, but having had some menacing pains in the chest, came in to consult a doctor, accompanied by Mrs. Reber. While waiting, they decided to go upstairs to visit a relative who is a patient. Mr. Reber changed his mind in the lobby so as to see the doctor without missing his appointment. He walked to a chair, and as he sat down, collapsed, and was dead almost instantly.
Henry Reber was the son of Harry E. Reber, who passed away last June. He was born at Anthony, Kansas, August 23, 1893, and was past 54 years old. He has farmed successfully on rural route 5, Newton, for 25 years, and has reared two fine sons. He is survived by his wife, formerly Mary Ellen Phillips, to whom he was married here Oct. 22, 1919, and two sons, Lawrence Edward, 613 Duncan street, manager of the Newton airport, and James Harry, of the home, Newton High School student. Also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Spangler, route 5; Gilbert Reber, route 1, Sedgwick; Mrs. Dick Rose, Hesston; Earl Reber, St. Louis, Mo.; and Walter Reber, El Dorado.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church here and the Wayne G. Austin post, American Legion.
Upright and highly respected, his passing has been a great shock to the entire community.
Funeral services will be held in the First Methodist Church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with the Pastor , Rev. Forrest E. Rohl, officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery. Friends may see Mr. Reber at the Moody's Funeral Chapel any time Wednesday afternoon or evening.
