Lawrence E. Reber, 48, of Route 1, Newton, died Monday afternoon at Bethel Deaconess Hospital after a short illness.
He was owner of Reber's Fashions of Newton and a representative for Investors Diversified Service.
Mr. Reber was born March 18, 1921 in Newton, the son of Mrs. Mollie Reber and the late Henry Reber, and had been a lifelong resident of Harvey County.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and the board of trustees. He served as a captain in the Air Force in World War II and was a member of the American Legion and a past commander of the local post.
Survivors include his widow, the former Mary Alice Miller; 1 son, Larry, and 2 daughters, Marilyn Kay and Lea Ann of the home; his mother of Newton; and 1 brother, James H. of Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Fred Spinder will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Calling time will be at Petersen Funeral Home prior to service. The family suggests contributions may be made to the Kansas Heart Association.
