Rose, Richard

Richard (Dick) A. Rose, 64, of 720 Grandview died unexpectedly early Wednesday evening at Axtell Christian Hospital.  He was admitted to the hospital about two hours earlier, after being stricken at his home, apparently with a heart ailment.

Mr. Rose was born Sept. 24, 1895 at Bussey, Iowa, a son of Mrs. Emma Rose and the late Charles I. Rose.  He farmed in the Hesston community before moving to Newton in 1951.  He had been employed as maintenance man at Presbyterian Manor.

Mr. Rose was married at Newton March 15, 1922 to Olive Frances Reber, who survives.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the 1st Methodist Church and American Legion Post of Newton.

In addition to his widow and mother in Newton, Mr. Rose is survived by a son, Richard Junior, of Newton; three brothers, Worth G. of Roseau, Minn., Fred I. of Pomona, Calif., and Elmer P. of San Antonio, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Randall (Lois) Thompson of Albany, N.Y., and one grandson, Dale E. Rose of Newton.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the 1st Methodist Church.  Rev. Wayne E. Karlowski will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  The body will be in state Friday afternoon and evening at Moody's Funeral Chapel.
