Phyllus Rodriguez

Phyllus Rodriguez, 86, longtime Newton
resident, died Friday (February 19, 2021) at the Hospice House in
Hutchinson, Ks.
She was born on May 26, 1934 in Newton,
the daughter of Sebero and Teresa Grajeda Rodriguez. Phyllus was
raised in Newton, graduated from Newton High School.
She had worked in the cafeteria of
Bethel College for many years until retiring. Phyllus had also been a
caretaker for her parents for several years.
She was a lifelong member of Our Lady
of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Phyllus had moved to
Hutchinson in recent years due to her health to be closer to her
sisters.
Survivors include her three sisters
Martha Gomez of Newton, Faye Garcia and Henrietta Calvillo both of
Hutchinson; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllus is also
survived by her sister-in-laws Carmen Rodriguez and Rayma Rodriguez;
and brother-in-laws Gade Caudillo and Pete Calvillo.
Phyllus is preceded in death by her
parents; brothers Bacho and Ruben Rodriguez; and sisters Josephine
Martinez, Gloria Caudillo, Estela Chavez, and Vera Martinez.
The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will
be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday (February 24, 2021) with the Mass of
Christian Burial following at 11:00 A.M, both at Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary's
Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
The casket will be open at the funeral
home on Tuesday (Feb. 23rd) between 1:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M., where
the family will receive friends between 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with
Hospice House of Hutchinson and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home,
