Walter H. Hessler
Walter H. Hessler, 90, died Saturday
(March 30, 2002) at Presbyterian Manor. He was born Feb. 1, 1912, to
John F. and Amelia (Moska) Hessler in Sedgwick. They preceded him in
death. He married Wilma O. Shepherd April 12, 1936, in Newton. She
preceded him in death June 9, 1994. He was a native Harvey County
resident all of his life, moving to Newton June 1, 1925. He was a
master wood working mechanic and a retired self-employed wood mill
operator for 57 years. Many homes, churches, schools and business
buildings in Newton and the surrounding trade area will stand in his
memory. He was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church, having
served as Sunday school secretary and church trustee for several
years and as deacon for 25 years. At the time of his death he was the
longest standing member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters,
Roberta Shaffer of Wichita and Doris Campbell of Albuquerque, N. M.;
five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today
with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p. m. at Petersen Funeral
Home.
Funeral service will be 2 p. m.
Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Alden Dick
officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with
Hospice Care of Kansas in care of the funeral home.
