Marion Cornelius Dirks
GREENSBURG -- Marion Cornelius Dirks,
98, died Monday (April 1, 2002) at Friendly Acres Retirement
Community in Newton. He was born Nov. 13, 1903, to Cornelius J. and
Nettie (Schmidt) Dirks in Pawnee Rock. He married Lydia Johnson Nov.
14, 1926, in Ringwood, Okla. She preceded him in death Nov. 15, 1986.
He attended Greensburg Grade School and High School and was a farmer
and school custodian. He lived in Coldwater until 1946 when he moved
to Greensburg. He moved to Friendly Acres in 1994. He was a member of
the First United Methodist Church of Greensburg and was an usher for
many years. He was a member of the men's study and Prayer Group and a
charter member of the Southwest Kansas Antique and the Thresher
Association. He was active in both the Kiowa County and Newton Senior
Centers.
Survivors include: three daughters,
Alsine Ryan and her husband Joe of Houston, Arlene Minks and her
husband Earl of Ulysses and Marlene Harvey and her husband Ken of
Newton; a sister, Anna Koehn of Greensburg; nine grandchildren; and
12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p. m.
Wednesday at Fleener Chapel in Greensburg.
Funeral service will be 2 p. m.
Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Greensburg with the Rev.
Lawrence A. Lambert Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in
Greensburg.
