Wilbert H. Schmidt
Wilbert H. Schmidt, 93, of Goessel,
Kansas, passed away Saturday February 6, at Bethesda Home in Goessel,
the son of Theodore and Mary (Boese) Schmidt.
He graduated from Goessel High School
in 1945. Wilbert went on to graduate from Bethel College in 1955, and
from Emporia State Teacher's College in 1963.
Wilbert served in Civilian Public
Service (CPS) for 14 months in Camino, California and Lincoln,
Nebraska.
After CPS, Wilbert was uncertain about
what to do until he was encouraged to enter the field of education.
After he completed his education at Bethel College, he began his 39
years of teaching, primarily middle school math and science.
Wilbert married his high school
sweetheart, Eunice Maxine Schroeder, on June 13, 1950. She preceded
him in death on November 16, 2016. They had two children, Dyann
(William) Bockstahler of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Kenley (Susan)
Schmidt of Rochester, Minnesota, and four grandchildren, Christopher
(Julles) Bockstahler of Hillsboro, Oregon, Elizabeth (Chris)
Bockstahler of Portland, Oregon, and Kamal (Josiah) Baker of Colorado
Springs, Colorado, and Jorie Schmidt of Rochester, Minnesota. He also
has two great-grandchildren, Kenna and Jade Baker.
He is survived by four siblings, Helen
Stephens, Millie Loewen, Don Schmidt, and Esther Springer.
Wilbert was an involved member of his
church, Goessel Mennonite, since 1944. He served as a deacon there
for 18 years and taught Sunday school for many years as well.
Additionally, he was mayor of Goessel for four years, and served on
the City Council for 14 years.
Family will greet friends from 3 to 7
p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Miller-Ott Funeral Home,
Goessel. Please wear a mask and socially distance. Private burial
will take place at Goessel Mennonite Church Cemetery. Memorial
