Harold W. Buller, 83 years of
age, of Beatrice, NE. passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital Wednesday
morning, January 4, 2006. He was born on December 2, 1922 near Chinook, Montana
to Peter and Anna (Wiens) Buller, the second of six siblings. After graduating
from high school, he continued his formal education at Bethel College in North
Newton, Kansas, The Biblical Seminary in New York City and Princeton
Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey, followed eventually by a period
of Clinical Education in special preparation for his life work as a hospital
chaplain. He and Anne Wiebe were married on August 22, 1947 in Mt. Lake,
Minnesota. In 1948 Harold and Anne entered Post World War 2 relief work for
three years in Europe under the Mennonite Central Committee. He then pastored
at the Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton, Kansas and at the First
Mennonite Church in Beatrice, NE. In 1960 he began a 35 year term full time at
the Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice, NE., a job he thoroughly enjoyed
and found fulfillment as chaplain. After his retirement at age 72 his life was
filled with the continuing challenge of service in his church and community and
the joy of relating to children and grandchildren. He was a member of the First
Mennonite Church, R. Beatrice. He enjoyed very much his family and his lifelong
ministry, sculpting, reading, and writing poetry and performing dramas.
Survivors include his wife
Anne; sons Paul Buller and his wife Deb of Goshen, Indiana and Glenn Buller and
his wife Judy of Bluffton, Ohio; daughter Mary Anne Triller and her husband
Barry of Waterloo, Ontario; grandchildren Kristin, Sarah, Jenna, and Brett and
his wife Angela; brothers Peter Buller and his wife Gladys of Goshen, Indiana,
Clarence Buller and his wife Phyllis of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Henry
Buller of Augusta, Georgia; sisters Edna Gerber and her husband Ellis of
Mountain Lake, Minnesota and Shirley Newman and her husband George of Carthage,
Missouri; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and
Anna (Wiens) Buller.
Memorial services will be
held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the First Mennonite Church, R.
Beatrice, NE. with Reverend Weldon Schloneger and Reverend Florence Schloneger
officiating. Private family burial will be held Saturday morning at the
Mennonite Cemetery, R. Beatrice, NE. The body will lie in state Friday from
9-9:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. and not at the
church. The family will greet friends Friday from 7-8:30 P.M. at the
Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 P.M.
Saturday in the church basement. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been
established to the First Mennonite Church and the Beatrice Community Hospital
Foundation with Ernest Jantzen and John Hiebert in charge. Messages of
