Nicholas Jaso

Nicholas Jaso, 87, died Tuesday (Jan. 10, 2006) at Veteran Administration Regional Medical in Wichita. He was born Dec. 6, 1918, to Magdaleno and Maria (Garcia) Jaso in El Paso, Texas. They preceded him in death. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a first-class machinist for the Santa Fe Railroad before retiring. He loved baseball and softball. He played the saxophone and also enjoyed listening to Mexican bands and music.

Survivors include: sons and daughters, Anita (Jaso) Plummer, John Jaso, Victoria Jaso, Patricia (Jaso) Serrano, George Jaso, Manuel Jaso, Richard Jaso and Raymond Jaso, all of Newton, Irene (Jaso) Davilla and Virginia (Jaso) Cruz, both of Wichita, and Steve Jaso of Olathe; a brother, Lidio Jaso of Newton; sisters, Raymunda Florez of Newton, Belen Estrada of Newton, Katherine Ornelas of Newton and Luciana Gomez of Overland Park; 56 grandchildren; 123 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by: his wife, Juanita (Cervantes) Jaso; a son, Robert Jaso; brothers, Santiago Jaso, Pete Jaso and Mike Jaso; a daughter-in-law, Judy Jaso; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be until 5 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Recitation of the rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father James Mainzer officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association, the American Diabetic Association, Lupus Research and Meals on Wheels, all in care of the funeral home.
