Guadalupe Llamas
Guadalupe Llamas, 86, died
Wednesday (Jan. 11, 2006) at his residence in Newton. He was born March 14,
1919, to Pablo and Maria (Santiago) Llamas in Aguas Calientes, Mexico. He
married Marian Saenz Sept. 2, 1941, in Newton. She survives of the home. He was
a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Guadalupe served
his country nearly 35 years in the U.S. Army, Army Reserves and Air Force
Reserves. He attained the rank of master sergeant. He retired from the Santa Fe
Railway as a brakeman. Guadalupe served the city of Newton as a reserve police
officer for several years. He enjoyed teaching Tai Kwon Do and had coached many
boys' and girls' baseball teams throughout the years. He enjoyed woodworking,
gardening and following KU sports. He looked forward to spending time with his
family and friends and following his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's
activities.
Survivors include: daughters,
Mary and George Short of Wichita, Rose Martinez and Susan and John Rangel, all
of Newton; sons, Guadalupe Jr. and Dessie Llamas of Pasadena, Texas, Phillip
Llamas of Illinois, Gary Llamas and Mark Llamas and fiancé Gloria Arellano, all
of Newton; a sister, Carman Sauceda of Newton; brothers, Everett Llamas of
Wichita and Paul Llamas of Abilene; 14 grandchildren; and 16
great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. Saturday at Petersen Funeral Home and from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday with
family greeting friends from 5 to 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church.
Recitation of the rosary will
be 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Funeral service will be 10
a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Floyd
McKinney officiating.
Military burial honors will
be conducted at the grave site at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
Memorials have been
established with Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Harry Hynes Memorial
Hospice and the Cancer Center of Kansas, all in care of the funeral home.
