The Rev. James Starkey
NEWTON - The Rev. James Starkey, 80, died Oct. 6, 2005, at
Friendly Acres Retirement Community, Newton.
He was born Oct. 24, 1924, in Syracuse, the son of George E.
and Mary E. Gilbert Starkey. He received his bachelor's degree from
Southwestern College, Winfield, and later his Master of Divinity from Boston
University School of Theology in 1952. A resident of Newton, he was a Pastor at
eastern and western Kansas and central New York, and served as a chaplain at
Leavenworth.
He belonged to the Kansas East Conference of the United
Methodist Church, Escapees, NOMADS, Masons, Rotary, Lions and the Kiwanis. He
served in the U.S. Navy.
He married Nedra Y. McIrvin in Sumner County.
Survivors include: three sons, Berton L., Raymore, Mo.,
Rodney D., Prairie Village, and Marius L., San Francisco; a brother, George H.,
Alta Loma, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Ann Ayres, Phoenix; and two
grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Friendly
Acres Retirement Community Chapel, Newton.

Church, Heights United Methodist Church, or Friendly Acres Retirement
Community, all in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
