Otto M. Hiebert
Otto M. Hiebert, 87, died Tuesday (Oct. 11, 2005) at his
residence in Newton. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First
Mennonite Church in Newton with burial following in Restlawn Gardens of Memory
in rural Newton. Further arrangements are pending with Petersen Funeral
Home.

Otto M. Hiebert
Otto M. Hiebert, 87, died Tuesday (Oct. 11, 2005) at his
residence in Newton.
He was born June 14, 1918, to Henry G. and Marie (Schmidt)
Hiebert at their home south of Lehigh. They preceded him in death. He married
Martha Nickel Aug. 30, 1940, and they settled in Newton where they joined First
Mennonite Church. She survives of Newton.
Otto graduated from the eighth grade at Steinbach School and
then went to work on the family farm. On May 16, 1937, he was baptized and
became a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. Otto served First Mennonite
Church in many capacities through the years, including the board of trustees.
In addition to farming, Otto started driving a school bus for USD 373 in 1966
and retired in 1980. He later became a driver for the Harvey County Senior
Citizens Transportation Department where he worked for eight years. Family was
very important to Otto. His wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandsons and their
wives were all very dear to him.
Other survivors include: a son, Ross and Kathryn Hiebert of
Newton; a brother, Paul Hiebert of Goessel; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by: brothers, Menno Hiebert
and Levi Hiebert; sisters, Tina Koehn, Lena Hiebert and Elizabeth Frey; and an
infant daughter, Diane Hiebert.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family
greeting friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Mennonite
Church with Pastor Clarence Rempel officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.
Memorials have been established with the Mennonite Central
Committee and Hospice Care of Kansas, both in care of the funeral home.
