Marcella (Balzer) Picraux
HALSTEAD - Marcella (Balzer) Picraux, 69, died Monday (Oct.
17, 2005) at Newton Medical Center. She was born Feb. 27, 1936, to Jacob P. and
Olga R. (Winter) Balzer Suderman in McClusky, N.D. They preceded her in death.
Upon graduating from high school, Marcella attended Tabor College of Hillsboro.
After college, she was employed at Back to the Bible Broadcast of Lincoln,
Neb., and then went on to care of the children of Kiddie Land in Lincoln. She was
a member of the Mennonite Brethren for many years.
Her hobbies included singing, reading, taking walks and
enjoying nature. One of her favorite pastimes was going out to eat, especially
ice cream. While in Halstead, she had friends who visited her often.
Survivors include: a brother, Orman Balzer of Mesa, Ariz.;
sisters, Mavis and husband Wes Vix of Minot, N.D., Rhoda and George Guerin of
Denver, Arva and Dave Deutschendorf of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Rita Smith
of Wichita; a friend and stepdaughter, Tammie and Marty Tearpak of Longmont,
Colo.; many nieces and nephews; and four step-grandchildren, Andrew, Marisa,
Daniel and Desa Davis.
Visitation will be until 4 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial
Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Halstead Health
and Rehabilitation Center with Dave Deutschendorf officiating.
Burial will be in Gnadenau Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Memorials have been established with Halstead Health and
Rehabilitation in care of the funeral home.
