Harold F. Claassen
Harold F. Claassen, 95, retired civil engineer for the Corps
of Engineers, died Sunday (Oct. 16, 2005). He was born Sept. 30, 1910, to John
G. and Marie (Ensz) Claassen in Newton. He attended local schools in Newton,
graduating from high school in 1929. After graduation, he attended Bethel
College and then attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1938 with an
engineering degree. After graduation, he enlisted with the U.S. Army attaining
the rank of corporal upon his discharge on Dec. 17, 1945. After his honorable
discharge, he returned to Tulsa where here resumed his 35-year career with the
Corps of Engineers as a civil engineer. He married Dorothy Buchanan Sept. 3,
1949, in Tulsa. Claassen was a member of the First United Methodist Church and
Sertoma Club and was a Red Cross Volunteer.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy of 56 years, daughter;
Cheryl Claassen and her partner Marilyn Smith and their daughter Janeli of
Boone, N.C.; two sisters, Dorothy Stucky of Moundridge and Edith Loewen of
North Newton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eric Claassen.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ninde Woodland
Chapel with the Rev. Ed Bateman of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the family plot in Memorial Park Cemetery.
