Kathryn G. Lauber
Kathryn G. Lauber, 94, died Wednesday (Oct. 19, 2005) in
Espanola, N.M. She married Wilfred Lauber on June 15, 1930, in the Evangelical
Church in Topeka. He died June 7, 1997. She was a mother and homemaker in
Topeka from 1930 to 1957, when the family moved to Wichita. She was an expert
seamstress, making her children's clothes during the war, and quilting and many
other arts and crafts as long as she was able. Her family treasures the work of
her hands on afghans, pillows, quilts and knitting, and will for generations to
come. She loved cooking and entertaining.
She was very active in her church, EUB, and later United
Methodist, especially women's groups and mission projects. She worked in the
credit department at Innes, and later Macy's, in Wichita. They moved to Newton
for retirement in 1972 and spent many winters in Mission, Texas. She liked to
travel and visited Europe, Hawaii, the Panama Canal and much of the United
States. As her health declined, she moved to Espanola, N.M., in 2001 to be
closer to her son and daughter-in-law, who cared for her.
Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence Craig
and Sharon Lauber of Espanola, N.M.; a daughter and son-in-law, Louise (Lauber)
and Doran Hays of Keizer, Ore.; four grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
