Milton L. Matthews
Milton L. Matthews, 69, died Sunday (Sept. 11, 2005) at
Newton Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1936, to Ira Leon and Sarah Alberta
(Whitmer) Matthews in Manhattan. They preceded him in death. He married Mary
Ann White June 16, 2001. She survives of the home. He was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He held membership with
College Hill United Methodist Church. He was a recreational pilot,
photographer, golfer and genealogist. He was an avid Kansas State University
football fan, a strong fitness advocate and loved his family and friends. He received
a master's degree from Kansas State University in primary education and school
administration, and he served as principal of Goddard Primary Learning Center.
Other survivors include: daughters, Tammi Brummer of Gardner
and Lynette Lyon of Olathe; a son, Jim White of Las Vegas; a sister, Linda Toy
of Manhattan; a foster sister, Sandy Steele of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11
grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Traci Matthews
and Terri Matthews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday with family
greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.
Private family service will be held Friday. Pastor Bob
