Margaret Louise Ikerd, 102, passed away
on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North
Newton, Kansas.
She was born on December 18, 1918, to Bernard F.
"Ben" and Louise Eliza (Wustenfeld) Adams of rural Stafford
County, Kansas. After graduating from Preston High
School in 1937, Margaret attended Salt City Business College in
Hutchinson, Kansas. It was in Hutchinson where she met the love of
her life, Neil E. Ikerd. They were married on February 15, 1942.
Margaret and Neil lived in Hutchinson and Lyons, Kansas, before
settling in Newton in 1946. Margaret was a devoted homemaker and also
was involved in community activities including being a PTA officer,
Girl Scout Troop Leader, Weekday Bible School teacher, Meals on
Wheels treasurer and most notably her faithful service at Newton
First Church of the Nazarene in positions such as choir member, board
member and missionary society president.
She is survived by her six children;
Phyllis Salesman of Locust Grove, Georgia, Ben (Rosella) Ikerd of
Moose Pass, Alaska, Linda (Dean) Koppes of North Newton, Kansas,
Loren (Francine) Ikerd of Aurora, Colorado, Marcia (Philip) Taylor of
Oklahoma City, David (Lynette) Ikerd of Garden Grove, California;
Grandchildren; Leslie D. (Mike)
Driskall, James N. (Lori) Boyles, Kellie R. (Javier "Billy")
Guzman, Jeanne E. Ikerd, Stephanie R. Diamante, Roger A. (Brandy)
Koppes, Kerry D. (Krista) Koppes, Charles N. (Amy) Ikerd, L. Keith
Ikerd, W. Sean (Abigail) Taylor, Chrishanne L. (Warren) Sternin; 22
great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her
husband, Neil Ikerd, in 1996; her parents, Ben and Louise Adams; five
brothers, Leslie, Paul, Harold, Bernard, James; and three sisters, Esther
Spangenberg, Ruth Stone, Lois Lamkins Langdon.
There will be no visitation or funeral
service at this time. The family will plan a celebration of life
service at a future date. Memorials may be made to Kidron Bethel
or First Church of the Nazarene in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
