Pedro J. Estrada, Jr. (1955-2021)

Heaven opened its doors to welcome Pedro (Pete) on March 17, 2021 in the company of his loving wife and daughters in Hutchinson, Kansas after a courageous battle with Covid-19.

Pete was born in 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas to Lydia and Peter Estrada Sr. who made their home in Newton, Kansas. Pete graduated Newton High School in 1973 and enrolled at Kansas State University where he was involved with ROTC and Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. Pete graduated KSU in 1978 with a degree in Criminology and began his career as a Probation Officer in the City of Hutchinson, a post he held until retirement in 2000. In 1980 Pete married Donna Luginbill in Newton, Kansas.

A man who invested in relationships and his community, Pete was a faithful active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, serving in various roles such as Director of CYO, member of Fiesta committes, and traveling on Missions. He did adoration for 25 plus years. He also served his country as a Lieutenant in the medical branch of the Army Reserve. In addition, Pete energetically volunteered as a coach for nearly 10 years of girls slow pitch softball, highlighted with appearances in the World and State Tournaments.

While his passion centered on his faith and family, Pete had many hobbies and therefore many friends in which he enjoyed spending time with. He was an avid traveler, bowler, fast pitch player, gambler and pool player. But most of all he is remembered as the best father, uncle, and friend who took the time to play a board game, or have a conversation about his many collections. He had a natural ability to connect and lift up those around him.

Pete is survived by his wife Donna of Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter Christy (Moline, IL); daughter Danielle Estrada (Las Vegas, NV); daughter Elena Hill (Derrick Las Vegas, NV); loving mother, Lydia Estrada of Newton, Kansas; sister Patrice Olais; sister DiAnne Decker; sister Christina Alvarez; and six grandchildren Joseph, Tea, Alycia, Peyton, Kieleah, Amaya, and future great-grandchild Alonzo. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews that have enjoyed every minute of joy he brought to their lives. He is proceeded in death by his son Ramon Miguel and his father Peter Estrada Sr.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2021, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Charles Seiwert officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard. Those who wish to view the service online may go to the OLG Hutch Youtube page the day of the service. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
