Samuel 'Sam' Townsend
Samuel "Sam" Townsend, 93, died Sunday (Sept. 18,
2005) at Newton Medical Center. He was born July 15, 1912, to Hezekian and Mary
Etta (Roland) Townsend in Risen, Ark. They preceded him in death. He married
Elizabeth Gray Aug. 21, 1936, in Newton. She survives of the home. Sam worked
as a Ford dealership mechanic prior to his retirement. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing and camping trips. He also enjoyed sports, especially baseball and
football. Sam looked forward to spending time with his family. He greatly
enjoyed spending time with and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Other survivors include: daughters, Anita Tolbert of Wichita
and Teresa Foster of Newton; a son, Galen E. Townsend; 13 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by: sons, Billy Townsend,
Homer Townsend and Samuel Morris Townsend; a daughter, Mary Etta Townsend; four
brothers; and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with
family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral
Home with Pastor Larry Lee of All Nations Pentecostal Church officiating.
There will be a private family inurnment.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Care in care of
the funeral home.
