Rudolf H. 'Rudy' Nickel
HESSTON -- Rudolf H. "Rudy" Nickel, 96, former farmer, died Thursday (April 5, 2001) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
He was born Dec. 13, 1904 in Hillsboro to Heinrich and Sara (Penner) Nickel. He married Lillian B. Janke Nov. 10, 1929 in Lehigh. She preceded him in death.
He grew up on a farm in rural Hillsboro before moving to Peabody in the mid-1960s. He retired from farming in 1988 and moved to a retirement home in Newton and then to Schowalter Villa.
Other survivors include: a son, Henry J. Nickel of Newton; four daughters, Mary June Goosen of Dinuba, Calif., Betty Jane Andres of Overland Park, Elsie Beth Macklin of Hutchinson, and Sharon Esther Franzen of Wichita; one sister, Wilma Pearl Nickel of Hillsboro; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home in Hesston.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Schowalter Villa Chapel with the Revs. Scott Miller and Beverly Baumgartner officiating.
A memorial has been established with Mennonite Central Committee in care of the Funeral home.
