Obituary

Marjorie C. Ruth, 98 years of age, of Beatrice, Nebraska died at the Parkview Center in Beatrice on Monday evening, February 21, 2005. She was born on April 21, 1906 at Granite City, Illinois and moved to Beatrice with her family in 1917. She graduated from Beatrice High School in 1924 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree and Masters Degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She taught rural school, was an associate professor of elementary education at Bethel College at Newton, Kansas for 10 years, taught 4th grade for one year at Bremerhaven, Germany and then returned to Beatrice where she taught 4th grade at Stoddard Elementary School, retiring in 1971. After her retirement from the Beatrice Public Schools, she taught at St. Joseph’s Catholic School of Beatrice and also did tutoring with Reading Unlimited, a local literacy program in Beatrice. She was a member of the Beatrice Mennonite Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Beatrice Federated Women’s Club and the Beatrice Area Retired Teachers. She enjoyed music and traveling.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, June Ruth of Prescott, Arizona. Four cousins, Mildred Drew of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Carl Andreas and his wife Rosalinde of Vermont, Paul Andreas M.D. of McPherson, Kansas and Marion Ruth of Lebanon, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents John E. and Anna Dueck Ruth and one brother Ed Ruth.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, February 27, 2005 at 1:30 P.M. at the Beatrice Mennonite Church with Pastor Denton R. Jantzi officiating. Burial of the cremains was in the First Mennonite Cemetery of rural Beatrice, Nebraska. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Mennonite Church or the Chaplaincy Program at the Beatrice Community Hospital with the Fox Funeral Home in charge.
