Obituary

Lois R. Wiens, 78, died Sunday (March 19, 2017) at her Newton residence. She was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Newton, to Willard H. and Olga E. (Regier) Regier. On Oct. 25, 1963, she married Willard W. Wiens in Elbing and he survives of the home. They attended First Baptist Church in Newton.

Lois was a member of the Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing. She retired from the Newton Medical Center after 23 years. She had a passion for Girl Scouts and was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts. She enjoyed bowling at Play-Mor Lanes in Newton and relaxed by reading books. Her family was important to her and she greatly enjoyed spending time with her loving family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband, Williard of the home; daughter, Karen Wiens of Newton; son, Jim (Kim) Wiens of Newton; daughter, Wendy Gronau (Pat O'Hare) of Topeka; one brother, Bob Schmidt of Newton; and two grandsons, Evan Gronau (Megan Hall) of Ottawa and Avery Gronau of Wichita.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Elma Regier; and brothers, Eldon Regier and Duane Schmidt.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday (March 22, 2017) at First Baptist Church in Newton, with Pastor Chip Bungard presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (March 21, 2017) at Petersen Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials are suggested to Newton Medical Center Auxiliary or Newton Girl Scouts, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
