Newton - Joan Ruth Duerksen, 83, passed away June 12, 2021 at her residence in Newton. She was born February 8, 1938 in Lehigh to Dan and Rose (Klassen) Plett. She married Willis Duerksen September 13, 1956 at Gnadenau Church rural Hillsboro. Survivors include: sons, Noel (Barb) Duerksen of Springhill, KS, Richard (Amy) Duerksen of Newton; daughters, Nona (Jeff) Mason of Goodland, KS, Martha (Roy) Hopkins of Newton; brother, Robert (Eilene) Plett of Reedley, CA; sister, Carol Jantz of Denver, Colorado; sister-in-law, Rowena Plett of Lincolnville; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Willis Duerksen in 2015 and brother-in-law, Jerry Plett in 2020. Celebration of Life service 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at Grace Community Church in Newton officiated by Pastor Steve Friesen.
