Rowe, Euell B 'Jack'

Euell B. "Jack" Rowe, 79, died Friday (July 11, 2003) at his residence in Newton.

He was born Feb. 13, 1924, to Barney Sullivan and Clara Alice (Horn) Rowe in Ada, Okla. They preceded him in death.

He was married April 21, 1946, to Ilene Hooker in Alex, Okla. She survives of the home.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newton, where he served in several offices. He had lived in Newton since 1947.

After being discharged from the Navy Seabees, he attended trade school to become a dry-cleaning apprentice. He worked for Harold Miller's Dry Cleaning from 1947 to 1955. After leaving Miller's business, he opened ABC Cleaners on Meridian Road. He ran the business for 13 years before he went to work as a sales representative for Lambert's Manufacturing out of Chillicothe, Mo. He worked for Lambert's until his retirement in 1986. He then worked part time at the Newton Public Golf Course, which he greatly enjoyed. In addition to golf, he was an avid gardener and loved bluegrass music.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jana and husband Alan Conwell of Salina and Jill and husband Michael Pierce of Wichita; one son, Rick and wife Pam Rowe of Wichita; one brother, Douglas Mader of Marlo, Okla.; three sisters, Kathleen Hall and Judy Waddle, both of California, and Cora Faye Boyce of Chickasha, Okla.; two grandsons, Chad Rowe of Atlanta, Ga., and Damien Rowe of Newton; one granddaughter, Alison Conwell of Salina; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Delbert Mader, and a sister, Reba Smith.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Pastor Timothy Conner officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with First Baptist Church and Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home
