Hesston - Gary Lee "Doc"
Baehler, 66, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away at 10:00 a.m., Sunday,
May 23rd, 2021 unexpectedly, at his home.
Gary was born in Goodland, Kansas on
November 21, 1954, a son of Helen (Langdon) and Everett Baehler.
Gary attended the Sharon Springs grade
schools and graduated from Wallace County Community High School,
Sharon Springs, Kansas in 1972. He then attended and graduated from
Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas where he received his
Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1980.
He was a member of Newspring Church in
Wichita, Kansas.
After graduating college, Gary worked
in Colby, Kansas for several years and then in 1986 he opened his own
practice in Hesston, Kansas known as Hesston Veterinary Clinic in
which he was currently owned and operated.
Gary was a member of member of the
AVMA, served on the Harvey County 4-H Fair board, and a past 4-H
Leader, and was a member of the Hesston Chamber of Commerce. Gary
enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandkids,
camping, attended all the girls activities such as games, rodeos,
livestock and horse shows and was their biggest supporter. Gary felt
blessed having the clients that he had, the community he served, and
had a true compassion for animals.
Out of his first marriage came two
wonderful girls, Kendra and Krista. His girls were the light of his
life and delighted in helping them in the lessons of life. He was a
great teacher and loved sharing his knowledge to all around him. Gary
Lee Baehler was united in marriage to Julie Michelle (Overbey) Barber
on October 18, 2008 at Golden Plains Free Methodist Church, Newton,
Kansas. The couple established their first home together rural
Moundridge, Kansas. Pepa showed unconditional love to his girls,
wife, his sisters, and carried on to his step children and
grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving and
devoted wife of 12 years, Julie Baehler, of Moundridge, Kansas; his
daughter Kendra Hopp and husband Brian, of McPherson, Kansas; his
step children, Madison M. Webb and husband Chad, of Lenexa, Kansas,
Mikayla R. Barber, of Hesston, Kansas, Michael M. Barber and wife
Ashli, of Lenexa, Kansas, and William Merek Barber, of Kansas City,
Kansas; his sisters, Gladys Sunderland and husband Norman, of Delta,
Colorado, Norma Blossom and husband Roger, of Bozeman, Montana, Janet
Droste, of Leoti, Kansas, Judy Kazmaier and husband Mike, of St.
Louis, Missouri, Carol McGuire and husband Jim, of Chapman, Kansas,
Vickie Kyner and husband Kevin, of Hanover, Kansas, and Deanna
Bussen, of Sharon Springs, Kansas; his six grandchildren, Baylor Alan
Hopp (Kendra & Brian's), Zoe Barber, Carson Barber, Eli
Schlemmer, Lincoln Barber, and Nora Webb; many nieces and nephews,
other relatives and a host of friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his
parents and a daughter, Krista Leigh Baehler.
Visitation will be held on Thursday May
27, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
The funeral service will be held at
Newspring Church, Wichita, Kansas at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 28th,
2021 with Pastor Mark Hoover officiating.
Graveside service will be held at the
Winona Cemetery, Winona, Kansas on Friday, May 28th, 2021 at 4:00
p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to Harvey County 4-H and they can be sent
in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street;
