Ethel E. Kaufman
Ethel E. Kaufman 97, died October 2,
2021 at Kidron Bethel in North Newton, Kansas.
She was born May 26, 1924 in Newton,
Kansas the daughter of David and Elizabeth (Gerbrandt) Dick.
Ethel graduated from Buhler High from
high school in 1932. She then attended Bethel College where she
earned a bachelor's degree. She married Rev. Waldo Kaufman during her
junior year at Bethel and together they enjoyed 52 years together
prior to Waldo's death. Ethel learned press linotype while at Bethel
on work study and she continued using this skill as she followed her
husband's ministry in Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska. She retired from
Mennonite Press in Newton.
She had a love of music especially
classical music. Ethel had a large collection of classical music she
enjoyed listening to. She was a skilled piano player and freely
shared her gift through years, most recently at Kidron Bethel as
residence gathered for dinner. Ethel also had the gift of voice and
sang at friends and families weddings and events though the years.
Cats held a special place in Ethel's
heart and she always had pet cats around to care for and love. She
was especially fond of her Siamese cats. As she moved into Kidron
Bethel apartments and eventually healthcare she always perked up when
she was presented with a cat calendar or photos.
Ethel is survived by her brother Ray
Dick; niece Elaine Schmidt; nephews Keith, Gary, Greg, Russell and
Loren Dick.
She is preceded in death by her
parents, husband, brother Harold H. Dick and nephew Duane Dick
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m.
Monday October 11, 2021 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation
with the family be will be 1 hour prior to the service. A graveside
committal service will follow the funeral at 2:00 p.m. at Pretty
Prairie Mennonite Cemetery in Pretty Prairie Kansas.
Memorials may be made in Ethel's memory
to Kidron Bethel Chaplain discretionary fund in care of Petersen
Funeral Home.
