Louie 'Smitty' Smith
Louie "Smitty" Smith, 84,
died Tuesday (Dec. 28, 2004) in Newton. He was born Dec. 5, 1920, to
Tobias and Helena (Eck) Smith in Verden, Okla. They preceded him in
death. He married Aileen Sebrant Oct. 10, 1940, in Enid, Okla. She
preceded him in death. He married Marie Byrum March 30, 2002, in
Newton. She survives of the home. He was the owner and operator of
Smitty's Propane Services. He also worked with Hesston and Kinder
manufacturing companies. During retirement, he enjoyed cutting wood
for 15 years. He attended school in rural Verden, Okla. He loved to
camp and fish. He enjoyed traveling, loved his family and had a
strong Christian faith.
Other survivors include: a daughter,
Janet Horn and husband Viktor of Newton; and two sons, Larry Smith
and wife Marilyn of Vally Center and Glen Smith and wife Eleanor of
Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by: seven
brothers, Henery Smith, Elmer Smith, Daniel Smith, Edwin Smith,
Lincoln Smith, Alvin Smith and Harry Smith; five sisters, Lilly
Becker, Edith Koehn, Eva Schimidt, Adina Ratzlaff and Lavina Koehn
and an infant child.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p. m.
Sunday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p. m. at Petersen
Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 1 p. m. Monday
at Plainview Mennonite Church in rural Verden, Okjla., with the Rev.
Robert Schmidt officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview Mennonite
Church Cemetery.
