Bobby E. Meacham
HESSTON -- Bobby E. Meacham, 76, died
Thursday (Dec. 30, 2004) at Newton Medical Center. He was born March
4, 1928, to Ella Lena (McQuaid) Stukey and William George Meacham in
Great Bend. They preceded him in death. He married Marilyn E. Reusser
June 9, 1948, in Walton. She preceded him in death Oct. 17, 1997. He
worked as a postal carrier for many years. After his retirement from
the United States Post Office, he did maintenance work at Axtell
Hospital. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp July 10, 1946,
in Kansas City, Mo. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps
Sept. 10, 1952, at the Marine Separation Center, USNTC, in Great
Lakes, Ill. During his enlistment, he assisted in the capture and
securing of Seoul, Korea, an d participated in the
Wonson-Hungman-Chosin Campaign of Northern Korea. He belonged to
Garden Mennonite Church of Hesston. Bobby was an active and
independent person. He loved to work with his hands and enjoyed
craftsmanship of all kinds. He was proud to serve his country and
proud to be in the Marine Corps.
Survivors include: a son, Bobby D.
Meacham of Newton; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen R. Meacham of Newton;
a daughter, Monica L. (Meacham) Shannon of Wichita; a son-in-law,
Craig A. Shannon of Wichita; a brother; Garry D. Stukey II of
Wichita; eight grandchildren, Amy R. Jamerson of Wheaton, Ill., Khale
A. Meacham of Denver, Matt A. Banning, of Mirannda, Calif., Alden R.
Stiner of Great Bend, Luke E. Banning of Pfluggerville, Texas, Julie
M. Meacham of Newton, Monica L. (Meacham) Shannon of Wichita, Lonny
R. Quattlebaum of Wichita and Ryan Q. Quattlebaum of Wichita; and 12
great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by: a
stepfather, G.O. Stukey; a brother; Eddy Meacham,; a son-in-law,
Charles R. Quattlebaum; and an infant sister and brother, Peggy and
Billy Meacham.
Service will be 11 a. m. Monday at
Garden Community Church with Pastors David Norris and Ted Veer
officiating.
Memorials have been established with
Schowalter Villa in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
