Diana Jean Ward Wenzel
Diana Jean Ward Wenzel, 83, passed away
peacefully on November 8, 2021 in Newton, KS. She was born in
Caldwell, KS to Jack and Eileen (Lebeda) Ward on August 29, 1938 and
was the eldest of 7 children. Diana grew up on a farm in Caldwell
where she and her 5 brothers were educated in a one room school
house. At 15, she contracted polio. She lived an active life despite
suffering the effects of polio, having a tracheostomy for over 40
years. Diana graduated from Caldwell High School in 1956 and attended
Southwestern College for 2 years. She married James Dillard in 1958,
moved to Winfield, KS and raised 3 children. Diana was employed in
the patient accounts department at William Newton Memorial Hospital
and The Snyder Clinic, both in Winfield. She was a lifelong member of
the United Methodist Church. For her many years of service to the Boy
Scouts, Diana received the Silver Beaver Award. In 1997, she met and
married "the love of her life" Karl Wenzel. Traveling was a
passion for both Diana and Karl. They especially enjoyed trips to
Branson, MO.
Diana is survived by her sons, Sandy
(Jeannie) and Kenneth (Debbie) Dillard and daughter, Rachel Dillard
as well as 5 grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 brothers, J.
Rex, Monty, and Jody Ward. Preceded in her death were her parents,
brothers, Carson and Terry, and sister Liana Ward. Her husband Karl
died on November 16, 2020. Diana will be remembered by the warmth of
her smile.

Alzheimer's Association or to Caldwell United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held at
Goodel Cemetery in Drury, KS.
