Dorothy M. Peak
Newton - Dorothy M. Peak 94, died
November 21, 2021 at Paramount Health and Rehab in Newton. She was
born December 4, 1926 in Quenmo, Kansas to George A and Edith
(Worley) McKinley. On April 9, 1944 she married Keith W. Peak at
Eskridge, Kansas and he preceded her in death on August 3, 1991.
She was retired as assistant director
of food service for USD 373 in Newton.
Dorothy was a long time active member
of First United Methodist Church in downtown Newton. She served as
president of United Methodist Women for several years and was an
active member of the Rachel Circle and another previous to that. She
was known for all her homemade pies and breads she made every year
for the church bazaar. Her family begged for her homemade rolls at
all the family dinners. She also loved playing cards with her card
group friends until they were no longer able.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters
Peggy Hinshaw of Bella Vista AR and Judy Cornelius (Tom) of El
Salvador, 5 grandchildren, Jeff Petersen, Denise Dreher, Vanessa
Webster, Tom Cornelius and Crystal Hinshaw, 11 great grandchildren, a
sister-in-law Linda McKinley and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, a daughter Lucinda Marie and 3 brothers Lewis,
Kenneth and Robert McKinley.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m.,
Monday, November 29, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Newton
with The Reverend Amos McCarthy officiating. Visitation will be 1
p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home the family will
receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial
will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton.
Memorials may be made in Dorothy's
memory to First United Methodist Church and left with Petersen
Funeral Home.
