Orpin, Charles Ernest 'Chuck'

The Newton Kansan

Charles Ernest "Chuck" Orpin

1956 - 2021

Hesston - Charles "Chuck" Ernest Orpin was born to Clarence and Ruth (Jantz) Orpin on June 14, 1956 in Newton, Kansas. He went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2021 at the age of 65.

Chuck became acquainted with his wife, Debbie Carlisle, during their high school years in Hesston, Kansas. After just a few dates, they knew they were meant to be together. They married on June 26, 1976, and went on to have ten children. He dearly loved Debbie. Even during his final days when his body began to weaken and his mind was confused, he expressed concern about her health and well-being.

When Chuck's children were young, he enjoyed serving as an Awana leader at his church. He was the most enthusiastic leader and was greatly enjoyed by the children in his group. On occasion, he sang in a men's quartet during church services. Most of his waking hours were spent working, but when he had time for a little bit of fun and relaxation, he enjoyed target practice. He taught his children to have a good work ethic and he was ready and willing to help anyone in need. Chuck and his family gladly welcomed people into their home and shared warmth and hospitality with everyone who walked through their door.

Always a hard-working man, Chuck spent 25 years working in the family masonry and concrete business, Orpin Construction. He had an eye for straight lines and was very particular about his firewood stacks and garden. During the past 20 years, he worked at AGCO as a forklift driver and material handler. His most common parting words to his family and friends were, "The Lord bless your steps."

Chuck took his faith and doctrine seriously and believed in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ for the payment of his sins. He was grateful to the Lord for calling him to salvation. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). At the time of his passing, Chuck was in the process of memorizing the book of Romans. He could be characterized as an honest, transparent person who was firm in his faith. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8).

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ruth Orpin. He is survived by his wife Debbie; their children Danny (Laura) Orpin, Randy (Bethany) Orpin, Robby (Holly) Orpin, Christy (Jack) Newland, Doug (Laura) Orpin, Stephen (Shannon) Orpin, Ruth (Scott) Thiessen, Jonny (Julianne) Orpin, Rachel Orpin, & Charles Orpin; their twenty grandchildren; his siblings Gary (Jan) Orpin, Dana (Denise) Orpin, Sharon (Leroy) Koehn, Roger (Donna) Orpin, & Mike (Judy) Orpin; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of Chuck's life was held. Burial took place at Eastlawn Cemetery, rural Hesston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to assist with expenses may be sent to Cornerstone Bible Church, 2535 N. Amidon Ave., Wichita, KS 67204. Please include "Chuck Orpin" on the memo line.
