from FG
LEO
R. GOERTZ MD Leo R. Goertz MD, 95, died on 17 April 2018 at home with
family around him, 13 days shy of his 96th birthday. He had stoically
put up with several illnesses that limited his enjoyment of the arts,
but not enjoyment of family and friends. Leo was born in Hillsboro, KS,
to Bruno and Helena Goertz. He attended the University of Kansas before
being drafted in World War II. He performed alternative service in the
Civilian Public Service until 1946. He graduated from Bethel College in
1948 and the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1952. After a
one-year internship, he practiced medicine in Sedan, KS, and then
completed his residency in radiology at the University of Kansas Medical
Center. In 1957 he joined a radiology practice in Kansas City KS until
retirement in 1989. He was a fellow in the American College of
Radiology, and served as president of the Greater Kansas City Radiology
Society. Leo was an avid supporter of and participant in the arts. He
was a member of the Kansas City Print Society, sang with the Kansas City
Philharmonic Chorus, regularly attended the Kansas City Symphony, Lyric
Opera, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra and many other concerts. He was a
Certified Master Gardener. He was a charter member of Rainbow Mennonite
Church and a supporter of its outreach in Rosedale, as well as its
missions of inclusiveness and witness for peace and justice. Leo's
parents, his beloved wife, Margret, and brother Chester Goertz
predeceased him. Leo is survived by brother Glenn (Janice), sons Robert
(Margaret), Kenneth (Sallie Page-Goertz), daughter Helen Boehm (Robert),
long-time family member James Jones, grandchildren Jacob Goertz,
Christopher Page-Goertz, Eli Page-Goertz, Allison Boehm Lehman, Nicholas
Boehm, Grace Boehm, and Dalton Boehm, and seven great-grandchildren.
All who knew him, even during his last months of hospice care, were
impressed by his kindness, his warmth and graciousness. He will be
sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date at
Rainbow Mennonite Church. Leo suggested contributions in his memory to
any of the following organizations: Rainbow Mennonite Church Endowment
Fund; Kansas City Chamber Orchestra; Cross-Lines Community Outreach;
Fellowship of Reconciliation; or the charity of one's choice. For
