Jon Duerksen
July 2, 1961 - January 20, 2022
Jon S. Duerksen, 60, of Newton, Kansas,
passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his home. He was born July
2, 1961 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Leroy Gerhard and Mary Jane
(Curry) Duerksen.
He graduated from Hesston High School
with the class of 1979.
After graduating, Jon went on to work
at Pizza Hut in Hesston. He later started working at Newton Public
Library, where he worked for 27 years. Jon enjoyed working in the
children's library as a puppeteer. The children would often refer to
him as Mister Jon. Working at the library, Jon developed a love for
reading and often shared book recommendations to his family and
friends.
Jon is survived by his sister, Laurie
Duerksen of Hesston; sister-in-law, Kathy Duerksen of Newton; niece,
Tabitha (Ryan) Hughes, and their two daughters, Kassidy and Kinsey;
and nephew, Jacob (Taylor Randle) Duerksen. He is also loved and
missed by his cousins.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; and two brothers, David and Kevin Duerksen.
Cremation is planned. Services are
pending and will be announced later. Memorial contributions may be
