Donald James Martin Jr (D.J.) was born on January 6, 1943, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Donald James Martin and Helen Claire (Penner) Martin and died on February 5, 2022, in Newton, Kansas, at Kidron Bethel Village where he had lived for 13 years.
In 1946, the family moved to the family farm Northeast of Lewis, Kansas, and spent many years there before moving into Lewis where D.J. graduated in 1961 from Lewis High School. He received his undergraduate, master's and doctoral degree in Psychology from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. D.J. loved to read and was well versed on a myriad of subjects. He was a gifted pianist and accomplished organist and shared his talents on many occasions.
D.J. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two children. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Claire Martin Newsom and Donald Joe Newsom; nephews, John Newsom (Cassie); Andrew Newsom (Carla); Two great-nieces; a great-nephew; numerous cousins.
Private burial, at his bequest, will be in Belpre Cemetery, Belpre, Kansas, on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 under the direction of Peterson Family Funeral Home, Newton, Kansas.
