Betty Lou Meyers
Newton - Betty Lou Meyers, 77, passed away on December 12th,
2021, at NMCHealth in Newton, Kansas surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Great Bend, Kansas, on February 10th, 1944,
the daughter of John and Helen (Maes) Berscheidt. Betty grew up on a small farm
outside of Belpre, KS and attended Zook High School graduating with the class
of 1962. She was a class officer, cheerleader and was an active participant in
multiple school activities. She was a member of the local 4H club and St.
Bernards Catholic Church group. After high school, Betty attended college at
Emporia State University followed by cosmetology school in Wichita, KS.
On August 31st, 1963, Betty was united in marriage to the
love of her life, Terry F. Meyers. Betty & Terry had two children, Brett
& Jill. They lived in several places across KS but would reside in Newton,
KS. The couple would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in August
of 2022.
Betty worked as a beautician at Silhouette Hair Fashions for
37 years, retiring in 2019. Following her retirement, she continued to do hair
for her friends and family as a hobby.
Betty loved spending time with her family and taking care of
others. She never missed a birthday or anniversary. She enjoyed the Holidays,
family gatherings, dancing, playing the piano, painting, making Halloween
costumes for her grandchildren and loved to take pictures. Betty loved to watch
the KS sunsets and the leaves change in the fall. She was a gentle, kindhearted
woman who always put others before herself.
Betty is proceeded in death by her parents John and Helen
(Maes) Berscheidt and her son Brett Meyers. She is survived by her husband,
Terry Meyers; daughter, Jill (Ed) Griswold of Newton, KS; brother, Thomas
Berscheidt of Great Bend, KS; sister, Jayne (Charles) Suiter of Edmond, OK;
grandchildren, Toria (Adam) Deterding, great-grandchild, Demi Lou Deterding,
Shaylee (Storm) Mosher, great-grandchildren Kimber & Remi Mosher, Easton
Griswold, and Jentry Griswold.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday,
January 7, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas. Recitation of
the Holy Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton, KS. A graveside service will take place at Lakin
Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the national
Alzheimer's Association, Good Shepherd Hospice, or NMCHealth in care of
Petersen's funeral home.
