Joyce Ellen (Pike) Dosien passed away March 4, 2022 in Bel Aire, Kansas.
She was born Jan. 13, 1926 in Mt Hope, Kansas. She was married to her sweetheart, Phil Dosien, for 75 years and together they raised two children on the family farm.
Joyce trained to become a nurse during WWII as part of the Army Nursing Corp. She built a career at Halstead Hospital over 32 years as a nursing instructor, director of nursing, and charge nurse of the intensive and critical care unit. Her favorite place when not at home was Lake City, Colorado. There she spent her time hiking, Jeeping, and enjoying the outdoors. Over the 70+ years they spent as seasonal residents of Lake City, Phil and Joyce introduced many friends and family to this wonderful and beautiful area. Joyce loved to travel beyond Lake City as well. She visited all 50 states and 54 countries over her life.
She was a woman of many talents who made friends wherever she went. Hers was a life that left those who knew her in awe of her energy and passion for new experiences. Joyce was a proud K-State fan, a caller of fish, a grand storyteller, and a gifted hostess. Her home was always open to friends and family for innumerable happy hours and card games long into the night. She will be greatly missed by her family and her friends.
Joyce is survived by beloved husband Phil Dosien, daughter Nancy Dosien, daughter-in-law Janet Dosien, granddaughters Jill (Sean) Trego and Ashley (Matthew) Hatchett, great-grandchildren Max and Katheryn Trego and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Tony Dosien (Augusta, Missouri), brothers Kenneth Pike (Eureka, Kansas) and Orville Pike (Halstead, Kansas), and sisters Elenore Achilles (Wyoming), and Verna Dick (Mt Hope, Kansas).
Viewing will be held at Kaufman Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 9 from 2-8 p.m. with visitation from 6:30-8 p.m. Service will be held Thursday, March 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Halstead United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.
