NEWTON ? Todd Scott Akers, age 57 died Friday January 28,
2022 at his home in Newton, KS. He was born on Au
He was born on August 28, 1964 in Newton, KS to Eldon and
Marian (Orpin) Akers. He married Patrice Murphy on November 11, 1989 and they
were married for 32 years.
He is survived by his wife Patrice of the home, son Ian Akers,
daughters Ashley Akers (Noah Schmidt), and Megan Akers (Hunter Kerr) sister
Deborah Akers-Hurley and mother Marian Akers. His beloved dogs, Sophia and
Lanie, cat Roxy, and grand doggies, Stella and Sydney.
Todd worked for the City of Newton Parks Department for 35
years and was passionate about keeping the parks beautiful and safe for the
community to enjoy. His cheerful attitude, bright smile, and infectious laugh
will be dearly missed. Todd always knew how to carry a conversation and make
you feel valued. A sentence his family heard a lot from others is ?he is one of
the nicest people I have ever met?. He was an outstanding athlete and state
medalist in track, and still holds the NHS school record in the 400-meter dash.
In 2014 he was inducted into the NHS Athletic Hall of Fame. In his free time,
he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed coaching his children?s sports
teams and attending their events. Todd also coached special Olympic basketball
for about 8 years. He loved spending time with his wife, kids, and pets.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, father Eldon,
and brother Michael.
Visitation Thursday February 3, at Broadway Colonial from
5:00pm ? 8:00pm with family present 6:00pm-7:30pm. The memorial service will be
held Friday, February 4, at 11:00am at First Church of God. Private inurnment
will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial fund has been established to assist the family
