Fred E. Killfoil, 81, died Nov. 27, 1998, at Newton Medical
Center.
He was born Nov. 5, 1917, at Silver Cliff, Colo., the son of
Michael and Rachel Cooper Killfoil. A Newton resident for 55 years, he was a
blacksmith and welder for the Santa Fe Railway Co.
He was a member and deacon of the Church of God of the First
Born, a VFW Distinguished Supporter, and belonged to the Commanders Club, all
at Newton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Nov. 7, 1937, he married Lyla M. Jantz at Lankin. She
survives.
Other survivors include two sons, James D. Grand Forks,
N.D., and Jerry D., Newton; four daughters, Mary A. Hanke, Fort Madison, Iowa,
Jane R. Killfoil, St. Joseph, Mo., Shirley M. O?Neil, Newton, and Carolyn J.
Smith, Greenville, Texas; a brother, John Killfoil, Almond Beach, Fla.; four
sisters, Rose Hands and Betty McLinn, both of Garden City, Nellie Walker,
Wichita, and Edith Whitson, Corvallis, Ore.; 17 grandchildren and 24
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Elton Lee; a brother,
Charles; two sisters, Marie George and Beth Lawhead; an infant grandson; and
two infant great-granddaughters.
Funeral at the Church of God of the First Born, Newton, with
Pastor William Meyer presiding. Petersen Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be
in the church cemetery, rural Newton.
