Wiebe, Virgil L.

Obituary

Following a short and surprising illness, Virgil L. Wiebe, 77, of Hollister, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2018, at the Springfield Cox Hospital.

He was born in Newton, Kansas on October 13, 1941 to the late Bernard and Margaretha (Neufeld) Wiebe. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.  Virgil graduated from John Brown University in 1963 in Radio Production and Management. After graduation he joined Back to the Bible, Lincoln, Nebraska, where he served in various capacities, including Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Operations until his retirement in 1999 after 36 years. He also was a member of the Back to the Bible Radio Choir and Quartet.

He served on numerous boards: Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (EFCA), College of the Ozarks Association, Berean Church Council, The Good News Broadcasting Association Christian Stewardship Council, and Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.

He was an avid fan of the sports teams at College of the Ozarks and volunteered at the NAIA basketball tournaments for many years. Other volunteer activities included Lincoln Berean Church 1988-2013, Skaggs-Cox Regional Medical Center Branson, mission work including a trip to India and participation in Berean church plants in India.

Virgil was known for his gentle spirit and easy smile and his joy in reaching people for Christ. He enjoyed hosting friends and relatives along with wife Julie, landscaping, playing dominos with friends, playing board games with grandchildren, carving, reading, travel, Branson shows plays and music, and budget and financial counseling for young adults.

He is survived by his wife, Julie (Hattel) Wiebe; daughter, Danelle (Brad) Klassen of Worthington, Minnesota; sons: Trevin (Tara) Seng, and Tracin (Jessica) Seng, both of Omaha, Nebraska; 15 beloved grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Bradley of Ft. Scott, Kansas; sister-in-law, Beverly (Roger) Smith of Iowa; nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 25, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 400 S Sunshine St, Branson, Missouri, with Pastor Jeff Wilcox officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Virgil?s name be made to Mission Fund at First Baptist Church.
