Ross Michael Scheffler was born on March 31, 1949, in
Newton, Kansas to parents Art and Catherine Scheffler. Ross was an outdoorsman,
and enjoyed hunting and fishing from a young age. He especially enjoyed hunting
with his Dad, brother and uncles. Ross loved to bow hunt and was an excellent
marksman.
Ross attended St. Mary?s grade school and graduated from
Newton High School in 1967. He was a wrestler for NHS and followed the sport
for years. He joined the Marine Corp after high school and served his country
in Vietnam. After leaving the Marines, Ross returned to college and graduated
from Washburn University. Ross worked at various corporations in and around
Newton and Wichita. In 1973 Ross married Janet Custer and they were blessed
with two beautiful daughters, Stacy and Angela. Both daughters currently live
in Florida. Ross liked to play cards and read.
He always loved cars and motorcycles and had two classic
cars in his early years that he was proud of: a 1957 Chevy and a 1965 Corvette
Stingray. He also loved his Kawasaki motorcycle. He had experienced health
issues over the past several years which prevented him from walking and working
out like he wanted to. He is survived by his two daughters , Stacy Zahn and
Angela Hackley (John) and two Grandchilden Brady and Lauren Zahn, and one
brother, Leon Scheffler (Lisa) of Southlake, TX, two sisters, Barb Schuster of
Lee?s Summit, MO and Jody (Doug) Meier of Phoenix, AZ. He was an uncle to 2
nephews and 4 nieces. He was a great-uncle to 4 great nieces and 4 great
nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 with
family greeting friends from 6 p. m. to 8 p. m. at Petersen?s Funeral Home 215
N. Main, Newton, KS. Memorials can be made to Wounded Warriors.
