James Kelly Harms, 65, of rural Newton
passed away July 7th. Kelly was born August 10, 1956 to Willis and
Wilma Harms of rural Whitewater. He was baptized on May 21, 1972 in
the Grace Hill Church. Kelly attended Country Side Grade School,
Elbing Grade School and Remington High School. He graduated from
Bethel College. Kelly worked in the court system for a number of
years and was most recently employed by Bethel College until he
retired in January of 2022. On August 16, 1980, Kelly married Cindy
Bogart of Phillipsburg, KS. They were married 42 years. Kelly had
many business interests including farming and raising cattle. He
enjoyed antique and coin collecting, camping, fishing, bicycling,
jogging, and traveling. Throughout his life he was active in several
sports. He could frequently be seen at auctions, flea markets and
antique stores, quite often finding treasures for others. He loved
spending time with family. Kelly had a keen wit and a teasing sense
of humor. He loved history and had a terrific memory for historical
details and facts. Survivors include his wife, Cindy, and mother,
Wilma Harms. Other survivors are brother Gary and, wife, Linda Harms
of rural Whitewater, sister Jane and, husband, Tom Washburn of rural
Newton, several nieces and nephews with numerous great nieces and
great nephews. Kelly was preceded in death by his father, Willis
Harms. Visitation at Petersen? Funeral Home Tuesday, July 12 from
5pm to 8pm. The family will be present from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 13th at Salem
United Methodist Church (of which Kelly was a member), Newton.

Salem United Methodist Church or Good Shepherd Hospice.
