Delores Twila Goering, 86, died on
August 18, 2022, at Paramount Community Living in Newton, Kansas,
after a family weekend with her children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren.
She was born on October 25, 1935, in
Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Balzer)
Schroeder. She was one of five children.
Delores met her future husband Leonard
?Len? Goering, and after two years of dating, the couple married
in September of 1955 at Tabor Mennonite Church, rural Goessel.
Leonard and Delores were married 64 years, prior to Len?s passing
in September of 2019.
Delores enjoyed nurturing her family
and creating a home for them. She enriched the family life with her
love of travel, singing, cooking, baking, sewing, and compassion for
the disabled and less fortunate. Her personal relationship with her
Lord and Savior were evident in her kind and loving character. Her
daily devotions and Bible studies were the center of her faith, as
well as singing in the church choir, participating with Women in
Mission, and other Faith Mennonite Church activities.
Delores supplemented the family income
by being a daycare provider, bookkeeper at the Kansas State Bank, and
a Mary Kay Consultant. She valued the relationships she built with
children, co-workers, and clients. They were also blessed to have her
in their circle.
Delores is survived by her children,
Mark (Alice) Goering, Tim (Cheri) Goering, Russell (Julie) Goering,
and Lori Tortorice; eight grandchildren, Ben, Anna (Jamar), Adam
(Andrea), Jessie (David), Maggie (Adam), Alyx (Shane), Zach, and
Grayson; five great-grandsons, Jalen, Javion, Arlo, Jaxton, and
Dorian; as well as numerous extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Leonard; parents, William and Gertrude Schroeder; brother,
Virgil Schroeder; sisters, Sylvia Schmidt, Evelyn Balzer, Ina Bartel;
and son-in-law, Michael Tortorice.
A memorial service is scheduled for
10:30 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2022, at Faith Mennonite Church in
Newton, with a graveside service to be held at 7:30 p.m. at Restlawn
Gardens of Memory, SW of Newton. A public visitation will take place
from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 25th at Petersen Funeral Home in
Newton. The family will be present at the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m.
