Doris Emilie Schmidt

Doris Emilie (Flebeau) Schmidt, 93, of Hesston, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at Schowalter Villa. She was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of Raymond and Josephine (Frey) Flebeau.

Doris graduated from Hartford High School with the class of 1946, and later graduated from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in 1949.

She was a former member of Friedenstal Mennonite Church, rural Tampa. Doris and Junia later joined Faith Mennonite Church in Newton, where they have been members since 2005.

Doris worked at Hesston Corporation as a nurse for 17 years. She later worked in retirement centers in Newton until late 1996.

She was united in marriage to Junia Schmidt on Feb. 19, 1955, in Middletown, Conn. They shared 67 years of marriage. He survives.

Other survivors include her five daughters, Laurel (Karl) Louderbaugh of Yates Center, Carol (Monty) John of Winfield, Patricia (Randall) Stauffer of Hesston, Cynthia Payton of Lawrence, and Paula (Troy) Martin of Milford, Neb.; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and son-in-law, David Payton.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 19, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston, with family present from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, at Faith Mennonite Church, 2100 N. Anderson Ave, Newton. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Schowalter Villa or Faith Mennonite Church, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, P.O. Box 32, Hesston, Kan., 67062.
