Edwin O Harder

Edwin O. Harder, 90, died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at his residence in Newton.
He was born April 7, 1911, to Eduard M. and Mary (Entz) Harder on the family farm in rural Newton. They preceded him in death. He married Edna Margaret Janzen March 18, 1937, at First Mennonite Church in Newton. She preceded him in death March 27, 1996.
He attended Kelly Grade School, graduating from the eighth grade, then attended a German school near Whitewater. He completed one year at Hesston Academy. After leaving school, he helped his father on the farm until he started farming for himself in the fall of 1936. He was confirmed in baptism at the First Mennonite Church in Newton and remained a member there until his death. In addition to farming and raising livestock he enjoyed reading farm magazines, listening to the radio and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include: two sons, Willis Harder of Newton and Richard Harder of North Newton; a daughter, Janice Regier of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by: an infant son, Marlin Leroy Harder; two brothers, Milburn Harder and Waldo Harder; and a sister, Katherine Harder.
Funeral service was Monday at First Mennonite Church with Pastors Rusty Bonham and Vern Unruh officiating.
Burial was Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the General Conference Commissions on Overseas Mission in care of the funeral home.
