Mary C. Hershberger, 83, of Hesston,
Kansas, passed away Wednesday,
September 7, 2022 at Newton
Presbyterian Manor. She was born August 13, 1939 in Independence,
Kansas, the daughter of Louis Wolf and Vera (Troutman)
Wolf. She graduated from Independence
High School with the class of 1957. Mary was united in marriage to
Joseph E. Hershberger on June 15, 1973 in Miami, Oklahoma. They
shared almost 50 years of marriage. Mary worked as a housekeeper for
Sedgwick Nursing Home, later working for Schowalter Villa from 1990
to 2006. She was a member of the Hesston United Methodist Church,
where she volunteered to knit and crochet baby blankets, hats, and
other clothing items for children in need during the winter, and
packed sack lunches on Sundays. Mary quilted at Schowalter Villa and
spent her time volunteering for Meals on Wheels and prepping food for
the Emma Creek 5k. Mary and Joe were on the committee that initiated
the annual Fish Fry fundraiser for the Hesston Area Senior Center.
Mary is survived by her husband, Joe Hershberger of the home;
daughter, Marilyn Wooderson of Newton; stepdaughter, Joye Turner of
Florida; twin sister, Marie Cotterill of Cherryvale; twelve
grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her
parents; daughter, Gwendolyn (Snyder) Moore; stepdaughter, Jaye
Roberts; sister, Sadie (Wolf) Schwatken; great-grandson, Payton Lee
Denes; and brother-in-law, Gary Cotterill. Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Hesston United
Methodist Church. Cremation will follow with a private inurnment at a
later date at Eastlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.,
Friday, September 16, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston, with
family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to
