Frieda Mae Quiring, 84, died on October
7, 2022, at her home in Newton, Kansas.
She was born on December 28, 1937, in
Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of Cornelius (Curt) and Kathrine
(Flaming) Janzen.
On June 15, 1957, Frieda was united in
marriage to Don Quiring in Newton, Kansas. The couple celebrated
their 65th wedding anniversary this year.
Frieda worked various jobs throughout
her working life including bank teller, clerk at Druber?s Donut
Shop, and finally retiring following several years as a lab tech at
Bethel Deaconess Hospital.
Frieda was a devoted member of the
First Church of the Nazarene in Newton and made sure that her family
faithfully attended and was active in the church as long as they
lived in the home. She, along with her husband, volunteered in the
kitchen for many years.
In her early years of marriage, Frieda
enjoyed spending time with her mother and late sister-in-law, Obera
Janzen, playing Scrabble and having Faspa (low-German Mennonite term
for typical late afternoon lunch usually consisting of bologna,
cheese and zweibach). Much of that time was spent in conversation
freely flowing in and out of German and English often in
mid-sentence. She provided for her family by canning the produce from
the bountiful family garden. Much of what the family ate in the
winter months was grown and harvested by the family earlier that
year. She enjoyed Pepsi and chocolate breaks with her daughter, Joni,
whenever they could find the opportunity. She loved and appreciated
her nightly phone conversations with her daughter, Kathy. While she
was still able to travel, she greatly enjoyed trips to Columbia, MO,
to spend time with her daughter Redonda and her family and to see the
beautiful scenery of central Missouri. Throughout her married life,
Frieda loved ?junking? at estate and garage sales with her best
friend, Linda, even as her health began to decline.
Frieda was a caring wife, mother,
grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her husband,
Don Quiring; children, Katherine Rose (Sid) Brown, Redonda (Mike)
Marshall, Irene (Kevin) Lehrman, Don (Jacki) Quiring, and Joan Marie
(Bill) Burns; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2
greatgreat- grandchildren; brother, Arlo (Hazel) Janzen; and her best
friend for over 50 years, Linda Eschelman.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Curt and Katherine Janzen; brother, Clarence Janzen; and
sister, Lillian Carmen.
A memorial service will be at 10:30
a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton,
Kansas, with Kerry Rosfeld officiating. Visitation will be at
Peterson Funeral Home from 5:00-9:00 on Friday, October 14, 2022,
with the family present from 6:00-7:30.
