Floyd E. ?Skippy? Garnett, 84, died
Wednesday (October 12, 2022) at his home in Newton, Ks.
He was born on January 5, 1938 in
Newton, the son of Harry and Edna Rose Dickinson Garnett. A lifelong
resident of Newton, he graduated from Newton High School in 1956
where he played football, basketball and was on the track team. He
later attended Bethel College where he played football.
?Skippy? married Winnifred P.
Rawlins on January 23, 1959 in Wichita, Kansas. They were longtime
members of Hall?s Chapel A.M.E. Church in Newton.
He was inducted into the Newton High
School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018.
He had been a Foreman at the Harvey
County Road & Bridge Department for many years and was involved
with the development of East Lake. After retiring from the county, he
went to work for Rhoades Construction Company.
Survivors include his wife Winnifred of
the home; two sons Eldon Garnett of Wichita and Steven Garnett with
his wife Deana of Salina; daughter Dee Garnett of Kansas City, Mo.;
one sister Jeri Lynn Tipton of Kansas City, Mo.; and three
grandchildren Jeffrey Garnett, Latoyia Garnett, and Jayden Roberts.
Mr. Garnett is preceded in death by his
parents; three brothers Clayton, Norris and William; and six sisters,
Clara Whitmore, Eilene Boyd, Rose Marie Foster, Brenda Harvey,
Rosetta and Harriet.
The casket will be open at the funeral
home on Thursday (Oct. 20) between 1:00 and 5:00 P.M., and Friday
(Oct. 21) between 9:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M., where the family will
receive friends between 6:00 and 7:30 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00
A.M., Saturday (Oct. 22) at the Trinity Heights United Methodist
Church in Newton.
