Elaine Lee, Lawrence Kansas, passed
away on November 30, 2022. Memorial services will be held on December
10, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, KS. She was
born on May 28, 1954, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Elliott Lee, Jr. and
Ellen Dean Lee. Her parents and twin brother, Dwayne Lee preceded her
in death.
Elaine grew up in Joplin, Missouri
until her family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1963. There she
received her high school diploma from Bassett High School. After high
school, she began working at Security Pacific National Bank until she
moved to Newton, Kansas in 1980 and worked for Koch Oil and the
Sedgewick County Sherriff?s Department. After the birth of her son,
she moved to Lawrence, Kansas where she worked at Sallie Mae, and the
University of Kansas, and was an avid sports mom and a member of
Calvary Church of God in Christ. Later, she returned to Newton,
Kansas where she was a faithful worker with All Nations Church and
became a para-educator with the Newton Public School District, while
also working at Walmart. Elaine finally settled again in Lawrence, KS
and this is where she concluded her work career with Walmart.
Elaine was known for her sweet and
loving spirit. She was someone whom many confided in and she would
offer a kind word and intercessory prayer. She had a great sense of
humor, which she needed growing up with six siblings. Elaine was the
quintessential older sister taking care of her younger siblings. She
was creative and loved to write and crochet and presented many
hand-made gifts to those she loved through the years. The signature
dish she loved to prepare was apple pie.
Elaine was so proud of her family and
was very close to them. Left to cherish her memory and legacy are her
son, Jonathan David Lee (Angela Kaye Lee) of Wichita, Kansas and
granddaughters, Jacey Blaire Lee, Jordyn Raye Lee, and Morgan Joy
Lee. Also in remembrance of Elaine are her brothers, Larry Elliot Lee
(Barbara Ann Lee) of Newton, Kansas, Robert Gary Lee (Lavanda Rose
Lee) of Menifee, California, and Lindsay Kerwin Lee (Joyce Lee) of
Newton, Kansas. Also in remembrance are her sisters, Linda Kay Swan
(Samuel Lee Swan) of Downey, California, Donna Marie Bell of
Lawrence, Kansas, Michele Ann Lee of New York City, New York, and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. Most
of all Elaine leaves a spirit of thankfulness for others to emulate.
She was always smiling, always appreciative, and always thankful. She
will forever be missed. Please send flowers and cards to Petersen
