Glen Leon Davis, 74, of Newton, Kansas
died Sunday (December 18, 2022) at the Overland Park Regional Medical
Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
He was born on July 28, 1948 in El
Dorado, Kansas, the son of Harry LeRoy ?Bus? and Letitia Davies
Davis. During his younger years, Glen was raised in El Dorado then
moved to the rural Burns, Kansas area. He graduated from
Peabody/Burns High School in 1967.
Glen married Becky D. Barker on
November 15, 1968 in Newton.
He served three years in the U.S. Army,
being stationed in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona and then at Landstuhl,
Germany where he was a Medic at both hospitals.
Glen worked with Becky in the pizza
restaurant business for nine years. Then he joined Orkin as a
salesman and earned numerous awards over the thirteen years he was
with them. In the mid 90?s, Glen and Becky opened the family
business, Davis Pest Control in Newton which he continued to operate
until is passing.
Glen and Becky had one son, Benjamin
Davis, who worked in the business with both of his parents.
Glen loved his four Golden Retrievers
over the years, but more than anything his four grandkids.
He was a member of the First United
Methodist Church, American Legion Post #2, V.F.W., the Fraternal
Order of Eagles and the Newton Rotary Club. Glen served as a City
Commissioner for five years and a Mayor of the City of Newton for one
year.
He enjoyed early mornings at Druber?s
Donut Shop discussing a realm of topics at the ?round table.?
Glen flew with the Kansas Honor Flight
to Washington, D.C. in 2016.
He enjoyed fishing with his grandkids,
reading, watching old movies, listening to audio C.D.?s while
driving, and playing Texas Hold?em with friends.
Survivors include his wife Becky Davis
of the home in Newton; daughter-in-law Casey Reed of Newton;
granddaughter MaKayla Davis of Abilene, Ks.; grandsons Gunnar,
Braxton, and Axyl Davis all of Newton; brother-in-law Kendall Barker
and wife Carol of Andover; sister-in-law Penny Barker of Hesston, Ks;
niece Kacy Wells and husband Cory; two great nephews of Andover;
along with numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Glen is preceded in death by his
parents; son Ben Davis in 2021; and his older brother Harry Davis.
While no public service is planned, the family will receive friends
at a Celebration Of Life lunch gathering on Saturday (January 7,
2023) at the American Legion Post #2, 400 S. Spencer in Newton
between 11:30 A.M. and 1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has
been established with Grand Center Senior Center of Newton, Caring
Hands Humane Society of Newton, and American Legion Post #2 of
Newton.
