Daniel Wilbur Bergen, 79, of Goessel,
Kansas, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022 at Wesley Medical
Center in Wichita. He was born May 24, 1943 in Goessel, the son of
Henry and Eunice (Wiebe) Bergen.
He attended Gordon Grade School and
graduated from Goessel High School with the class of 1961.
He was united in marriage to his high
school sweetheart, Joyce Pankratz, on August 28, 1965 at
Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage.
Joyce preceded him in death on June 9, 2021.
Dan worked with traveling harvesters
and at Hesston Corporation. He served in the United States Air Force
Reserve and was in Korea from 1967 to 1969. After returning, he
became the medical photographer at St. Francis Hospital for 10 years.
In 1979, Dan bought Schmidt Studio in Goessel and was a professional
photographer until retiring in 2011.
Dan was a member of the Alexanderwohl
Mennonite Church, where he was active as an usher, videographer and
photographer, and in the Sunday School classes. He had many hobbies
over the years including flying his airplane, fishing, astronomy,
birding, and flying model airplanes. He and Joyce took many trips in
their RV. Being Grandpa to his grandkids was his favorite role the
past 14 years.
He is survived by his two children,
Greg (Kim) Bergen of Leawood, and Jennifer Bergen (Mark Wiemers) of
Manhattan; five grandchildren, Wyatt and Owen Adams, Hunter Wiemers,
and Luke and Georgia Bergen.
Dan was preceded in death by his
parents; wife; and brother, Henry Bergen, Jr. He will be missed by
many friends and relatives.
Graveside services will be held at
10:15 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite
Church Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at
Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. Memorial contributions may be made to
